Bad: Family Updates From People Who Never Bothered With You When They Had No Kids

I love this.

People who never give you the time of day for the longest time become your best friends after they have a kid, sharing everything with you and clogging up your account space with tons of pictures.

These same people never reply to your e-mails either, unless your e-mail involved complimenting how cute/advanced/amazing their child is.

Thanks, but I don’t really give a rat’s ass about your freaky-looking progeny. If you don’t have the decency to communicate like a decent person, then I will just tag your e-mail address as a source of spam and kiss your inane updates goodbye.

Good: People Who Give Up Their Seats for Pregnant Women

Kudos to you folks.

I remember seeing a guy with a broken leg give up his seat to a pregnant lady on the Subway.

People like that make my day.

Bad: Hackers

There was a time when Hackers were cool. Finding chinks in the armor and consequently getting better jobs because of it. After all, why NOT hire the ones who know your weaknesses? Keep your friends close and enemies closer.

But there is a point at which the line is crossed. A point where people go too far.

To the shitheads that hacked into the Epilepsy Help site and replaced parts of it with seizure-inducing imagery, I hope you get yours in prison. I hope you get a seizure-inducing incident of your own.

Good: Dark Chocolate

‘Nuff said.

Bad: Militant Greeners

I’m going to go out on a limb and lump a bunch of groups together here.

I’m talking about people who are environmentally conscious. Whether this means they try to eat “organic” foods, wear “organic” clothes, protest carnivores, or perhaps try to shrink their ecological footprint.

Now, I think these sorts of people are great, and I try my best to do some of the things that they do.

The ones I am referring to, of course, are the ones who force their opinions down your throat and make you feel like a pile of shit. You know the types. The ones who stride around with their heads held high, defending the Earth from all of us who perhaps use one more styrofoam cup than we should. They stop and point at you during their busy day of God-knows-whatever-they-do to tell you that you use too much electricity, or perhaps you should be thinking about the feelings of the animals you are ingesting, or maybe that shirt that’s not made out of 100% biodegradable material is going to destroy our children in the future.

Invariably, it’s those loud morons who buy the latest and greatest in technology, not really paying any mind to the hazardous waste that they accumulate in the long run, that probably do more harm than good. Those same jackasses tend to be the ones who are so label conscious (ever wonder what some of the big-name labels do to help the environment?). These same people - in their younger years - traveled around the world in airplanes and drove cars with horrible emissions.

We know the real reason why you guys want everyone else to save the Earth. You feel pretty guilty, don’t ya?

The funny thing? It’s those who live a quieter “green” life that impress me. They lead by example, rather than run around and spread panic.

Good: Washington DC

I’m going to go out on another limb here and lump the whole city together.

I never expected a seat of such political power to be so cool and awesome. That’s right. I’m so impressed that my skill for administering descriptors has fallen to that of a twelve-year-old.

The “main area” as I like to call it, is clean and beautiful. A well-thought-out and well-maintained living sculpture of buildings and vegetation.

The areas outside of this focal point? Also amazing.

Trendy restaurants, fancy boutiques and interesting homes make this a truly amazing city to visit.

Not to mention that it’s easy to get around on their underground transportation system.

Kudos, DC!

Bad

Hey you. Yes you. The guy with the brow that one could boulder across.

I’ve seen you before. You’re surly and grouchy and you’re not afraid to yell at people who get in your way, and then shove past them. Even though, you know, you could walk around them.

A little advice. Maybe the next time you are about to place your green-and-white golf umbrella inconveniently in the doorway alcove (you know, a place where someone could stand) you will reconsider your action and hold onto it. Most people are afraid ask you to move it because you look like you’d bite their faces off.

Oh yes.

Take some E so you don’t look like you have stones in your bladder.

You with the reddish hair and the greenish grey coat. Yes you. The nice long coat over the greyish/blue (lavendar) turtleneck sweater.

I’ve seen you too!

You always seem so tired and so sad. You look like a slightly wilted flower that just needs a little water.

Chin up, lurvely! Hopefully what’s bugging you will pass and you can smile again. Because I’ve seen you smile once in the direction of a little girl and it brightened the subway car.
